Harry Potter

Welcome again!
As you can see in the title, today we are going to talk about a magical and successful phenomenon. I’m sure all of you know about Harry Potter’s magical world, but how has all this become a huge business?

Everything started many years ago with the first book: Harry Potter and the philosopher Stone, wrote by JK Rowling, and since then six more books were wrote and eight movies were filmed. Harry Potter’s world has been since the beginning a global phenomenon, the books have been translated to 65 languages and 350 million exemplars have been sold in 200 countries. But not only the books have been booming. All the films collected around 7 million dollars, being the last one (1.146M) the most successful film of Harry Potter’s saga.  Furthermore, all the Harry Potter’s films were adapted to a game launched by Electronic Arts.

People could think that with the end of Harry’s history in the last book, Harry Potter and the deathly hallows, and with the second and final part of the last film, the business had ended, but it didn’t. They invented different ways to approach people to Harry’s world. For example, they created The Wizarding World of Harry Potter and the Warner Bros Studio Tour London.

Now we are going to explain in-depth every business. The first one is The Wizarding World of Harry Potter. This park is located in Orlando and you can visit some significant places like a real version of Hogsmeade, the village where the students of Hogwarts can do excursions during the course if they are older than 2nd year. In Hogsmeade you can enter to different stores like Zonko if you are looking for jokes and toys, Honeydukes if you want to eat all types of colorful sweets, Olivanders that is a very important manufacturer of wands, Dervish and Banges if you have for example Quidditch needs, Owl post and finally the Three Broomsticks, a rustic tavern where you can drink a pint of Butterbeer. But that’s not all! In this park you can also visit iconic locations of Hogwarts such as Dumbledore’s office, the Gryffindor common room, the room of Requirement, the Forbidden Forest and many more places. Additionally, you will experience a flight with Buckbeak the Hippogriff and a dragon challenge.

The Warner Bros Studio Tour London is not like a park, it consists of a visit to the studio where the movies where filmed. It takes you behind the scenes and you can visit some momentous places like The Great Hall or see iconic elements of the film such as the Nimbus 2000 broom or Hagrid’s flying motorcycle. But the most interesting thing of all is that you can discover how they brought some creatures to life through the special effects with green screens, scale models… The prizes are:

Adults (over 16 years): 28£
Childs (from 5-15 years old): 21£
Up to 4 years: Free
Family ticket: 83£

Knowing all this the important question is how has Harry Potter become so successful? In my opinion it’s due to the books. Harry Potter’s books have provoked powerful feelings in the readers. The books can be read by people of all ages; also, young people that started to read the book when they were 11 have been growing whit Harry and his friends experimenting and enjoying all their adventures.

Harry Potter is not a book focused on several characters. When you are reading the books you are meeting many characters and this makes the readers become attached to some and hate many others. It’s for this reason that the book is so successful, because it makes the reader feel committed with the book story.  Surely the producers have known how to take advantage of this enthusiasm satisfying the necessities of the consumers, such as creating a real model of Hogwarts, the fantastic castle where many of us would like to study at.

The next blog update will be about... a place where you can see all your idols!
