Don Quijote de la Mancha

Hello again!
En un lugar de la Mancha, de cuyo nombre no quiero acordarme… Nowadays everybody knows about this phrase and the book that talk about the adventures of Don Quijote de la Mancha and his loyal friend Sancho, characters created by Cervantes. Today we are going to talk about a specific chapter where Don Quijote fights against some giant windmills. These windmills are typical in Castilla y La Mancha, a Spain province.

Some of the most famous windmills are located in Consuegra, a little town of Cuenca. In this town we can find Calderico hill. This mount is well-known because today we can see 12 of the 13 windmills that were built between XVI and XX century. All the windmills are named with names extracted of Don Quijote de la Mancha’s novel, and four of these twelve windmills are in perfect working order. The most famous of these 12 windmills is the Sancho mill, built in XVI century.

But not only are these windmills famous. In Ciudad Real we find Campo de la Criptana. This village has La Paz hill, where we can see 10 of the 32 windmills that existed initially. Some of these mills preserve the initial machinery and others are museums dedicated to different things, for example one of them is dedicated to wine.

All these mills are very important to the cultural and touristic heritage in Spain. That’s why many people are interested in visiting the windmills, because they are icons of Spanish literature. Nowadays many travel agencies organize tours in Castilla La Mancha to show the famous monuments to those that are interested in see them.

The next update will be in a few days, don't forget to come again!
